PORTLAND -- Firefighters rescued a man from the Willamette River early Tuesday morning.
He was pulled from the water near the Hawthorne Bridge at around 3 a.m., dispatchers said.
A 911 caller had originally reported a body floating in the river, but responding crews discovered the man was still alive.
He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and was expected to survive. Investigators did not say how the man ended up in the river.
