PORTLAND – The man killed Monday afternoon in a rollover crash in Southeast Portland has been identified as Jon Pierce Wright, 50, of Vancouver.
Police responded to a call around 4 p.m. Monday. Officers found a severely damaged commercial truck on its side in a muddy area off Southeast 110th Drive near Southeast Foster Road.
Wright was found dead at the scene. According to a spokesman from the Portland Police Bureau, Wright lost cotrol while driving a commercial pumper truck down a steep section of Southeast 112th Avenue.
Witnesses said it looked as if Wright could not slow down. He lost control of the truck and it drove off the side of the road, crashing through a guardrail and into an embankment.
The truck crashed hard enough to disconnect the attached tank holding mud sludge.
The crash was being investigated. Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to contact the police.
Southeast 110th Drive remained closed near Southeast Foster Road.
