SHERIDAN, Ore. – A 51-year-old man was hit over the head with a hammer in an assisted-living facility in Sheridan Wednesday and another resident was arrested in the case, police said.
A worker at Deer Meadows Assisted Living Center found Ronald McKenzie lying on the floor of his room and bleeding from the head just after 2 a.m., according to Captain Tim Svenson with the Sheridan Police Department.
Investigators said McKenzie was struck multiple times in the head by a hammer, which was found next to him on the floor.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Salem Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with injuries to his face and head.
Suspect Nathan Brewer, also 51, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with assault, Svenson said.
Bail was set at $150,000 and Brewer will be arraigned in circuit court on May 15th.
