VANCOUVER -- The man found lying on the street with a serious head injury late Monday night in Vancouver has been identified by police.

Investigators said Sidney, P. Delaney was found just before midnight in the 1700 block of Norris Road. He had life-threatening injuries and was lying near a car that had crashed into a fence, according to Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

All the details in still have not been released, but police said Wednesday that they do not believe Delaney had been driving the vehicle and he was not hit by it, either.

A witness told KGW he heard the car crash into the garage of his duplex. He went out, saw three men and went back inside to call police. When he came out to get a license plate number, the men were gone and a person was lying in the street with a head injury.

The incident was initially investigated as a possible shooting that may be gang-related.  Kapp said police have not been able to confirm either of those details at this time.

A woman several blocks away was questioned but police have not said whether that was connected to the injured man found in the street.
