GRESHAM, Ore. - A Sherwood man has been convicted in the murders of a man and woman found shot to death in a Gresham condominium back in August of 2008.

James Tooley, 25, of Sherwood, was found guilty on five charges including aggravated murder, solicitation of aggravated murder, and conspiracy to commit aggravated murder.

He killed Anthony Patrick Cooper and Melinda Beth Kotkins inside the couple's condo at 836 NE 3rd Avenue. Police said Tooley was a known associate of the couple and investigators believe this somehow led to their deaths.

Investigators believe the victims' bodies had been there for more than seven days before they were discovered by a NW Natural Gas employee who noticed a foul odor.

An autopsy confirmed that the pair died of homicidal violence. They both had criminal records, police said.

Tooley's sentencing was set to begin soon. He could get the death penalty for the murders.
