VANCOUVER -- The owner of white SUV was arrested for a hit and run, after a 20-year-old man was run down and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver Thursday morning.
James D. Schellhas, 28, of Yacolt, was arrested Thursday and charged with hit and run injury and vehicular assault, according to Vancouver Police.
Cody T. Robinson, 20, of Vancouver, was struck just after 5:30 a.m. near Northeast Andresen Road and Fourth Plain Boulevard, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.
Robinson was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police found Schellhas' vehicle, a white Chevy Suburban, in the parking lot of a nearby McDonald's shortly after the incident.
However, the SUV had been reported stolen around the time of the accident, police said. Officers searched the area with the help of a K-9 unit but did not locate a suspect.
Sources close to the investigation said that cameras on the McDonald's showed Schellhas at or near the vehicle after the crash. He was arrested late Thursday afternoon.
Kristi Finney's stopped by the scene of the accident earlier that day. Her son was killed in a hit-and-run in Portland two years ago.
"I want this to stop," Finney said. "I don't want anyone else to go through this, just seeing this today I don't know if I'm going to be able to go to work for the rest of the day."
