PORTLAND-- A man claiming to have a gun was arrested near Lincoln High School Thursday afternoon, police said.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., police responded to Southwest 18th Avenue and Salmon Street after a man, appearing to be high on drugs, was reportedly walking in and out of traffic hitting cars, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.
As police approached the man, he motioned to his waist and claimed to have gun, police said.
Eyewitnesses said police then fired a bean-bag gun at the man.
The suspect, in his late-20s or early-30s, did not immediately react, but then laid down and police then took him custody, Simpson said.
Police did not find a gun.
Lincoln High School was briefly locked down and eastbound MAX service was momentarily halted.
