BEAVERTON – Officers in Beaverton arrested a man who admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on a social network, police said.
It all started on Oct. 8 when the girl’s parent found some concerning text messages on her cell phone, said Mike Rowe with Beaverton police.
Detectives figured out the girl met 25-year-old Jeff Michael Metschan (pictured), and after he was arrested, Metschan admitted knowing the victim was under age and to having sex with her, Rowe said.
Metschan was booked in the Washington County Jail on charges including rape and sodomy.
Beaverton police urge parents to monitor their kids’ time on the Internet because the chances of them being victimized greatly increase with the more people they meet on social networking sites.
Police suggest keeping computers in a family area and monitor the history. It’s also important to know a young child’s passwords for social networks, and check a young child’s smart phone if they have one. Parents can also set parental controls on computers and routers.
Police also urge parents to have a conversation with their kids about the dangers of meeting people on the internet.
