PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself near school children in a Portland park and washed his genitals in a drinking fountain.
He said he was trying to take a bath.
"He was bathing in the drinking fountain and had his pants down around his ankles and he was totally exposing himself," said witness Michale Koopman. "Once I saw that I asked the teacher to bring the kids inside."
As first reported in The Oregonian, witnesses told police that they saw Jamie Todd Hensler, of SW Portland, try to engage nearby kids in conversation before he took off clothes and began washing himself in the fountain at Couch Park.
Hensler was soon arrested and charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and misusing a drinking fountain. He was banned from the park. He was also supposed to appear in court Wednesday, but did not show up, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
A KGW reporter spotted him Wednesday at the same park and asked him about the charges.
"I was arrested because I was taking a bath in and washing up in the fountain because no one cares about me. They took my housing, took away my medical and social security," he responded.
Earlier this year, Hensler was arrested for assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and reckless endangering. The trial for those charges was scheduled to begin on August 3rd.
