ALBANY, Ore. – Burglars looted a man’s home in Albany just three days after a fire forced him and his young daughter out.
The fire broke out at 24-year-old Spencer Kernats’ home on the south end of Albany Monday afternoon. It started in his chimney and quickly spread upstairs.
Kernats grabbed his two-year-old daughter and made it out of the home unharmed. But on Friday, thieves propped a ladder against the home and climbed through a second-story window, police said.
Kernats said the thieves stole hundreds of dollars worth of electronics including two computers and a gaming system.
“How’s it make you feel stealing from people who are already down?” Kernats said he would tell the thieves if he ever met them.
Police said it’s not uncommon for thieves to target homes after fires, floods, or even deaths. Anyone with information about the robbery was urged to call Albany police.
