PORTLAND – A 55-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon for grabbing a bus driver by the throat after being ordered off the bus.
Witnesses told Portland police the suspect was riding the bus and was being disruptive and verbally abusive on the bus at Southeast 9th and Powell around 4 p.m.
The driver stopped the bus and told unidentified the man to get off.
That's when the suspect walked up the aisle and put his hands on the operator's throat, police said. Other passengers yelled to the suspect to let go and get off the bus. The suspect then got off the bus.
The operator did not suffer any serious injuries but was being evaluated at a hospital.
The suspect was arrested at the scene.
