HILLSBORO, Ore. – Several people in the Portland Metro area have reunited with their lost pets after the 4th of July weekend, but dozens more pets were still waiting at area shelters Monday afternoon.

One Washington County animal shelter took in 44 pets that had run away.

A Chihuahua named Daisy was one of those pets. Her owner, Megan Hops, said a friend was watching Daisy when the dog got loose over the weekend.

Hops said a friend found Daisy by checking the animal shelter’s website. The two had an emotional reunion Monday morning.

Staff members at the shelter said they love nothing more than seeing pets and their owners reunited. And they have quite a few more pets waiting for that moment.
