Poll:
Do you think red light traffic cameras are a good tool for city police?

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- A new effort in Longview aims to get rid of ticketing traffic cameras.

A group of citizens completed a petition and turned it in Monday, asking for a public vote on the matter.

"Spying on people for profit doesnt strike me as a good idea," submitter Joshua Sutinen said. "I dont think it's right for the city government to be imposing them on us without asking the voters who are going to be paying the tickets in the first place."

The cameras were installed earlier this year and have been issuing tickets since March.

The group planned to address City Hall at a merting Wednesday morning.
