MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Students in one class at Linfield College had a blast taking their final Friday because the test involved beer.

The course is called "the Art and Science of Brewing," and in it, students learn the principles of chemistry by brewing their own beers.

The professor admits the course is a blatant attempt to make chemistry more appealing to students.

Friday’s exam included the bottling of beer, and naturally, a final taste test.

“I was surprised. It was a lot like baking. You follow recipes. You had this time, make sure you are on the spot, don't mess up, and it comes out pretty well,” said Linfield student Eric Johnson. “(It’s) a little more rewarding end product in my opinion.”

During the course, students also visited local breweries.

The class, however, is not open to everyone. Students do have to be at least 21 years old to sign up.
