SALEM – The Oregon State Capitol hosted some of the state's best-known authors Tuesday, including KGW’s own Grant McOmie.

Grant’s Getaways” has been part of Newschannel 8 for the past five years, and now there is a book that serves as a companion to the series.

The book, “Grant’s Getaways: 101 Oregon Adventures,” is divided into seasons of the year. It’s a chance to delve deeper into what makes the state such an interesting place to see, and it encourages Northwesterners to get out and discover what's in their own back yard.

“It's very easy to take it for granted. I try to imbue in my writing a sense not only of an appreciation of time and place, but also context for just the romance of the great Oregon outdoors,” McOmie said.

He said his heart is in the desert, but for excitement he loves the coast because of the big fish.

McOmie was one of a dozen authors signing their latest works Tuesday.
