MADRAS, Ore. -- An inmate escaped from the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution near Madras.

Oregon State Police and the Jefferson County sheriff's deputies are looking for 31-year-old Clinton Orvill Swearingen. He was discovered missing about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and was most likely wearing jeans and a T-shirt with the word "inmate" and Department of Corrections logo.

St. Charles Hospital was lockdowned at about 1:15 p.m. after reports that Swearingen may have been spotted on the hospital property.

Swearingen is described as white, 5-foot-6, 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He had been in custody since February 2014 on theft and burglary convictions in Linn County.

The Deer Ridge prison holds about 2,000 inmates in minimum and medium security units.
