PORTLAND -- Northwest Germantown Road was closed Tuesday after ice on the roadways was causing traffic problems, transportation officials said.
"The traveling public is advised to be alert for ice on roadways this morning, especially in the West Hills, where Police have closed Northwest Germantown Road between Highway 30 and Northwest Skyline Boulevard due to icy conditions," said Cheryl Kuck of Portland Bureau of Transportation.
She said crews Monday night applied anti-icing chemicals on trouble spots, including Skyline Boulevard and Germantown Road, but the de-icer has a limited effect when the temperature gets below 27 degrees.
There was no word on when Germantown Road would reopen, but the temperature was expected to rise above freezing by Tuesday afternoon.
