SCAPPOOSE, Ore. -- Highway 30 was closed south of Scappoose after a fatal head-on crash near a weigh station Tuesday, deputies said.

An SUV crossed the median and collided with a car just after noon, said Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.

The driver of the car, 65-year-old Wayne Harvey McCormick of Scappoose, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Mark Alan Thomas of Oregon City, was taken by helicopter to a Portland hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Traffic was detoured for about five hours while the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police processed the scene.
