SALEM — Marion County officials are trying to identify skeletal remains that were found Saturday near Detroit Lake in the Santiam State Forest.

The bones were found by hunters in a remote area off Highway 22, near Niagara Falls Park.

Deputies think they are human remains but no positive identification has been made.

A previous version of this story cited law enforcement stating the remains could have been linked to a missing person out of Deschutes County. Oregon State police said they had no evidence to support that assertion.
