PORTLAND -- Two homeless people were assaulted by a group of teens Thursday night in the Lloyd District.

Police were dispatched to Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Clackamas Street at about 8 p.m. When they arrived, they learned a homeless couple had been attacked.

The victims and another homeless woman told police that they were walking along and met a group of teens. Police said the victims told them there was a brief conversation, which was non-confrontational.

After that, one of the teens shoved one of the women to the ground. The man came to her defense and was punched by another one of the teens, who then fled.

Officers checked the area but didn't find the teens.

The assailants were described as African-American men in their teens to early 20s.

The suspect that shoved the woman to the ground was described as about 13 years old, five feet tall, with a chunky build and short afro. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and carrying a black backpack.

The victims did not need medical attention, police said.
