HILLSBORO, Ore. -- An 18-year-old Hillsboro man was hit by a vehicle and left for dead early Sunday morning.
Hillsboro Police officers found the body of Jaziel Lopez-Medina, 18, in the westbound passing lane of SE Tualatin Valley Hwy. at around 3:15 a.m, near the entrance to the Sunset Esplanade Shopping Center. Police said he suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Police haven't been able to find any witnesses to the crash.
Detectives say one person reported seeing Lopez-Medina earlier in the evening highly intoxicated and stumbling around near the area.
“We believe he was drunk weaving in and out of traffic, heading westbound when a car hit him and left the scene.” Said Hillsboro police Lt. Michael Rouches.
“Maybe you have a neighbor or a friend. If you see front edge damaged or a smashed windshield that you didn’t see Saturday, call us," Rouches added.
Bartender Shannan Sosa said she thinks he wandered into the area from a nearby house party. She was outside when she saw him approach.
"He was hammered. I told him get off the streets, there’s a lot of cops out there," Sosa said. “I was shocked, he was trashed, probably fell into traffic."
Detectives also aren't sure what type of vehicle hit Lopez-Medina.
Investigators are asking for anyone who may have been in the area of SE T.V. Hwy and Cypress between 2:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Sunday to call Detective Buelt at 503-526-2256.
"We want to find who did this, so even small tips help," said Hillsboro PD Lt. Michael Rouches.
