SALEM -- A search for three hikers along Opal Creek who reported themselves missing Sunday evening ended Monday morning after they were spotted from the air.
They were airlifted out of the area by helicopter and were said to be in good condition.
One of the hikers was able to use a cellphone to call dispatchers about 8 p.m. Sunday, saying they were lost on a hike along Opal Creek in the Cascades foothills of Marion County.
A second call was made about 10 p.m. from the hikers, saying they were going to huddle in a single sleeping bag. Spotty cell service did not allow searchers to source their signal, he said.
The hikers were identified Monday afternoon as 22-year-old Danielle Sanders of Salem, 22-year-old Jordan Schillings of Salem, and 23-year-old Kristopher Brown of Monmouth.
