Oregon bankers upped a reward for the Grandpa Bandit's arrest to $10,000 on Wednesday after a fifth bank robbery was credited to him, according to the FBI.
Federal spokesperson Beth Anne Steele said that a Hillsboro bank was robbed Tuesday, Dec. 22, by a person matching the description of Grandpa, who bankers and police believe has robbed three Bank of America branches and a Key Bank from Sherwood to West Linn.
The bank robberies began in Salem during October. Tuesday's robbery was the third this month, according to Steele.
Witnesses have described the suspect as average height and weight, standing between 5'8" and 5'10" tall and possibly weighting 160 to 180 pounds. He has grey hair and light-colored eyes. More: FBI slugs bank robber 'Grandpa'
Grandpa has worn a zip-up hoodie with prescription eyeglasses on his face and sunglasses propped upon his head, witnesses told the FBI.
The Oregon Financial Institutions Security Task Force - or FIST - has offered rewards for the arrests of other men recently suspected of serial bank robbery. After FIST offers the reward, the FBI has given the suspects a nickname to assist in apprehending the suspected criminals.
Prior to Tuesday's robbery in Hillsboro, FIST had already offered $5,000 for information leading to Grandpa's arrest and conviction.
