PORTLAND – A woman driving an SUV hit a 14-year-old girl Monday afternoon in Southeast Portland and then fled the scene, police said.
Police said the Mount Scott Alternative School student was walking in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by an SUV turning from 26th Avenue onto SE Powell Boulevard.
Vicktorya Courtney was rushed to Oregon Health and Science University for treatment. She spoke to KGW from her hospital bed.
"For her just to leave like that, it's not just sad for me, but sad for her because now she has to have that on her conscience," Courtney said.
She added that the driver stopped after the crash and motioned for her to get up. When she couldn’t, the SUV took off.
Courtney described the vehicle as a gold-colored mid-sized SUV, possibly a Lexus. The victim said a woman was driving and she appeared to be in her 40s, about five-foot-three-inches tall, with black and silver hair. The woman was wearing dress slacks and a purple shirt with silver sequins.
Anyone with information that may help investigators was urged to call the police non-emergency line at (503) 823-3333 or send an email.
