PORTLAND – A 12-year-old girl was left behind after the driver of the car she was in crashed into a power pole and ran away, police said.
Police attempted to pull over 43-year-old Arnell Wendell Brown near Southeast 102nd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street early Tuesday morning, but he sped away, according to Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Officers stopped the pursuit and later found out Brown had crashed into a pole at Northeast 103rd Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street. He left the scene and the 12-year-old girl was still in the car when police arrived.
She walked to a nearby home for help. She was not injured. Simpson said she was the daughter of one of Brown’s friends.
Brown was located nearby and taken into custody on charges, including reckless driving, attempting to elude police and hit-and run.
Pacific Power was working to replace the pole Tuesday morning.
