PORTLAND -- A man died early Tuesday morning in a high-speed crash on Southwest Barbur Boulevard. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene about 2:45 a.m. and found the driver of a Prius dead, according to police.
Quinn Stephen Sivage, 27, struck a median and 450 feet later, demolished a bus shelter on the south sidewalk, said Portland police Sgt. Todd Davis. The car continued on, striking a building, sliding sideways into the back of a Chevrolet Suburban, which then hit a U-Haul truck.
A witness told KGW that sparks were flying everywhere as the car was careening out of control.
Speed was a factor in the crash, police said. Investigators had not determined if Sivage was impaired in any way.
"We gotta slow people down on Barbur," Davis told KGW. "I mean just off the top of my head, this is the second or third one I’ve taken on Barbur this year or close to it. We gotta slow people down.”
