PORTLAND -- One person was killed and a second person injured in a head-on crash on Cornelius Pass Road Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Neil T. Schneider of Scappoose was driving a Honda Civic when according to Lt Steve Alexander of the Multnomah County Sheriff's office, it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

Schneider's car hit a Hyundai Sonata driven by Janie Edwards of Hellebore.

Schneider died at the scene, Edwards was taken to the hospital and was listed in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said they think alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Cornelius Pass Road was closed for several hours during the investigation. Once the investigation is completed it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's office for review.
