JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ore. – A multi-vehicle crash that involved a fatality closed both lanes of Highway 20 near Santiam Summit Sunday afternoon.
Just after 12:30 p.m., a Ford Focus lost control on a wet road and hit the guardrail on the south side of the highway, Oregon State Police officials said.
The Ford went into the eastbound lane and struck a Honda Accord, which hit a Toyota SUV.
The male driver of the Honda died at the scene, officers said.
Multiple people were also injured in the crash, some critically, police said. Everyone who was injured was taken by Air Life and ambulances to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.
The highway was closed for hours with no detour following the accident. Sunday evening, one lane in each direction was opened.
