GARIBALDI, Ore. -- A family that recently moved to Oregon is living in a very unusual place. They are living on a barge they are building into a home and a place to do Christian mission work.
Eddie and Denise Ebel have Northwest roots, but lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico until they moved to Garibaldi earlier this year. The family with ten kids age six to 16 all live on the barge floating on Tillamook Bay, across from the fishing town of Garibaldi.
They began building the 20 by 80 foot barge as a home last spring and the work is not yet complete.
The barge was being built at a dock near the Garibaldi Marina. Now, the barge has moved across the bay and the U.S. Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay Commander says he has safety concerns.
The Coast Guard plans a thorough inspection of the barge Wednesday.
