PORTLAND -- The FBI is cracking down on laser pointers that are targeting pilots. Agents say the problem has reached an ‘epidemic level.’

They estimate there could be 3,700 laser incidents by the end of this year.

That’s an increase of more than a thousand percent in the past seven years.

Portland International Airport says it's had 85 reports of laser attacks this year. That's up from 51 last year.

Laser pointers can temporarily blind pilots, creating a dangerous situation when they're trying to take off and land.
