PORTLAND -- Evergreen International Airlines has filed a Chapter 7 petition in federal bankruptcy court in Delaware. This comes less than two weeks after unsecured creditors sought to force the airline into involuntary bankruptcy.
As first reported by The Oregonian, the filing was made Tuesday and estimates total assets of the Evergreen companies at up to $100 million and total debts up to $500 million.
Evergreen says it has up to 5,000 creditors. Evergreen International Airlines is one of seven entities listed as submitting the petition.
The others are Evergreen Aviation Ground Logistics Enterprise; Evergreen Defense and Security Services; Evergreen International Aviation; Evergreen Systems Logistics; Evergreen Trade; and Supertanker Services.
A call to Evergreen's corporate headquarters at McMinnville rang Wednesday, which was a holiday, but disconnected without going to voice mail.
