OREGON CITY, Ore. – A fugitive who escaped from a southern Oregon jail nearly a year ago was caught near Oregon City Tuesday.

U.S. marshals arrested 43-year-old Bradley Monical at a home in rural Clackamas County and took him to the Multnomah County Jail.

Monical escaped from the Jackson County Jail in November 2012. He stood on another inmate’s shoulders and broke through the roof, then jumped onto a nearby tree, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters.

“It wasn’t an easy process,” Winters said. The tree has since been removed.

Monical was awaiting trial on several charges, including attempted murder and bank robberies in Ashland and Coos Bay. He could face a judge as early as Wednesday.

Neighbors in Clackamas County said they had no idea such a dangerous fugitive was living nearby the whole time.
