PORTLAND – An emergency warming shelter was opened Tuesday in Southeast Portland, according to Red Cross officials.
The shelter, located at 1302 SE Ankeny St., will welcome guests from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., according to Julie Miller, spokeswoman for the Oregon Region of the American Red Cross.
This is the seventh year the Red Cross has opened warming centers during severe weather.
Red Cross staff and volunteers will offer blankets, sleeping mats and warm beverages to guests. The shelter is also pet-friendly and pet crates will be provided, Miller said.
Triggers for opening the shelter include overnight lows of 25 degrees or less and snow of 1 inch or more.
