OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Backers of an initiative campaign to require background checks on all firearm sales in Washington turned in another 95,000 petition signatures this week. That brings their total to about 345,000.

But The Olympian newspaper reports Initiative 594 backers aren't the only ones turning in signatures.

A group backing a proposal to limit gun background checks to whatever is the national standard also expects to bring its total signatures gathered up to 345,000 by the Friday deadline. Initiative 591 also would stop confiscation of firearms without due process.

Both measures are proposals to the Legislature and both expect to meet the signature requirements. They would be discussed in Olympia sometime after lawmakers return on Jan. 13.
