BEAVERCREEK -- A former Oregon man who had just returned home from living in Florida was critically injured early Saturday morning in a one-car accident in the 25000 block South Beavercreek Road.

Stephen D. Pitard, 47, was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to OHSU in critical condition with massive head injuries, according to Clackamas County sheriff's spokesman Det. Jim Strovink.

His son Shayne A. Pitard, 23, of Beavercreek was a passenger in the car. He managed to crawl from the wreckage to a nearby house and alert the homeowner about the wreck. He was taken by ambulance to OHSU and treated for a non-life threatening head injury.

The elder Pitard was driving a blue 1994 Lincoln two-door sedan southbound on Beavercreek between South Hereford and Heft Loop roads when it appears he lost control on a curve posted at 25 mph. Police estimate he was driving nearly 70 mph.

Alcohol and speed are factors in the crash, Strovink said. The accident remains under investigation.
