PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two autistic teenage girls lost their special tricycle to a thief got help to replace the bike thanks to caring Portlanders.

Roxanne Cross said their family got help from 1190 KEX listeners after the story was broadcast on the Mark and Dave show and on KGW.

East Precinct investigators said someone broke into the shed at the home on the 8900 Block of Southeast Stephens Street sometime Saturday night or Sunday and took the three-wheeled bike that had been donated by Oregon Health Sciences University.

"I wish I could at least let everyone know how very much their thoughtfulness and willingness to help is really appreciated and means a great deal to me and my family," Cross said.

Police said the tricycle was very special to the twin girls and the family could not afford to buy one on their own. A new one was ordered and shipped from a factory in Ohio.

From the story: "...a tricycle that had been donated to two autistic Oregon City teens after it was stolen." Really? Robin Hood donated a stolen tricycle? How about this?: Portland Police were asking for help in recovering a donated tricycle after it was stolen from two autistic Oregon City teens.

Hank: Despite the logic of your post, the primary thrust of the story should once again prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the sanguinary fingers of Bush/Cheney/Reagan and Frankie Avalon and their lemmings have no shame. To remove an Mother-Earth friendly means of transportation from use regardless of the circumstances, vividly demonstrates the lengths these fossil fuel promoters will go to continue lining their already overstuffed and greedy pockets off the backs of the marginalized. My guess is that the Neo-KKKon who stole this Al Gore endorsed and Pro-Kyoto means of egress were given hardy back slaps by their fellow criminals in the RethugliKKKan party.

That is so sad to hear. As parents of an autistic child, we know how difficult it is when things are going well let alone the loss these girls suffered. I pray that the bike is recovered and the person or persons who nabbed it are prosecuted accordingly. Until a message is send loud and clear for those who think that it is ok to HELP THEMSELVES to other folks belongings, it will continue.
