PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two autistic teenage girls lost their special tricycle to a thief got help to replace the bike thanks to caring Portlanders.

Roxanne Cross said their family got help from 1190 KEX listeners after the story was broadcast on the Mark and Dave show and on KGW.

East Precinct investigators said someone broke into the shed at the home on the 8900 Block of Southeast Stephens Street sometime Saturday night or Sunday and took the three-wheeled bike that had been donated by Oregon Health Sciences University.

"I wish I could at least let everyone know how very much their thoughtfulness and willingness to help is really appreciated and means a great deal to me and my family," Cross said.

Police said the tricycle was very special to the twin girls and the family could not afford to buy one on their own. A new one was ordered and shipped from a factory in Ohio.
