MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. - More than a dozen volunteers teamed up with Multnomah County deputies Friday to put a stop to car prowls in the Columbia River Gorge.
The teams put electronics and baggage in a bait car and waited for the crooks to pounce on it. They never did, but that is not always the case.
Earlier this week deputies investigated five break-ins in just one day.
"I thought Oregon would be more safe than that," said Greg McGeary of Minnesota.
Authorities say July is a popular month for car prowlers because of the weather and the number of tourists who visit the area. They say there is only one way to ensure you leave with all of your belongings.
"If you don't want it stolen, bring it with you," said Deputy Joe Graziano of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
