BORING, Ore. – Multiple law enforcement officers scoured rural Clackamas County looking for a shooter who killed a county employee Thursday morning outside of Boring. The search continued Friday morning.
Just before 4 p.m., authorities identified the suspect as 41-year-old Dirck White of Edgefield, Wash. (pictured). He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who spots White was urged to not engage him and to call 911 immediately.
He was reportedly driving a silver 2004 Mercedes 320 sedan with Washington plates ANB7070.
It all started just before 11 a.m. when a weighmaster with Clackamas County pulled over a commercial truck on Highway 224 near Southeast Amisigger Road.
That's when the driver shot and killed the county employee, multiple witnesses at the scene told KGW. The employee had a young man on a ride-along in the vehicle who witnessed the shooting, witnesses said.
Deputies said White may have been connected to the O'Malley Brothers business in Estacada.
Officers from multiple agencies, including U.S. Marshals, were going from car-to-car in the area with tactical weapons.
Schools in the Estacada School District were put on a level-one lockdown as authorities searched for the shooter. The lockdown was lifted just before school let out early at 1 p.m. due to snow in the area.
KGW reported Mike Benner contributed to this report.
