PORTLAND – Police found a Portland dentist dead from an apparent suicide at his home Monday when they tried to serve him a search warrant as part of a sexual assault investigation.
Portland police went to the home of Joshua Moffitt, 35, in the 1400 block of Southeast 46th Avenue Monday. They found Moffitt dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland police.
Moffitt was under investigation for multiple sexual assaults involving two victims who were juveniles at the time of the incidents.
Moffit was a pediatric dentist who was working for a nonprofit for children in Oregon, according to sex crime unit detectives. Moffit may have also performed dental work on children from a Native American reservation near Browning, Mont.
Although both victims met Moffitt outside of his work as a dentist, detectives were concerned there may have been other victims because of his work with children.
Anyone who has additional information about additional victims was asked to contact Portland Police detectives at 503-823-0400.
