PORTLAND -- A man found dead in his vehicle after a rollover crash on Interstate 5 Monday died from natural causes just before the crash, police announced Tuesday.
The single-vehicle crash was reported just after noon on I-5 northbound at the Jantzen Beach exit, according to the Oregon Dept. of Transportation.
The driver, 63-year-old Charles McNew, was the only occupant of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, said Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Arriving crews had attempted to resuscitate McNew, but a medical examiner later determined McNew was dead before the crash.
The off-ramp was closed for several hours while crews cleared the scene.
