ALOHA – A man who allegedly fled the scene after crashing a car, which killed his passenger, was arrested on DUII charges Saturday in Aloha, sheriffs said.
Scott Harris, 22, allegedly lost control while driving west on Southwest Gassner Road around 3:30 a.m and hit a very large tree, breaking it in half, said Sgt. Dave Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
The car was destroyed, and 20-year-old Kalin Morris of Forrest Grove was trapped in the vehicle. She died later at the hospital, Thompson said.
Authorities learned from nearby residents that the driver had fled the scene.
Deputies called a K-9 team to track him down, Thompson said.
The dog didn’t find the suspect, but two hours later deputies found Harris walking down Southwest 209th Avenue.
Deputies thought he might be the driver of the vehicle and detained him.
He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released to deputies who took him into custody, Thompson said.
Harris was later booked on charges of manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and DUII.
