PORTLAND – A bicyclist who was hit on Interstate 205 near the Northeast Killingsworth Street overpass Thursday was in serious condition Tuesday, police said.

Daniel Albertsen, 40, was riding a BMX-style bike shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday when he was struck. The accident closed all but one lane northbound on I-205.

A preliminary investigation showed that Albertsen was riding on the right shoulder of I-205 northbound when he tried to cross over the freeway towards the center median.

A northbound driver struck Albertsen. The driver was going the speed limit.

The driver who struck the bicyclist remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Dispatchers said they received multiple reports of a dog, which may have been associated with Albertsen, on Interstate 84 near where the man was hit on I-205. Officials did not locate a dog and couldn't confirm the reports.

Albertsen was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. He was in serious condition Tuesday, police said.

The crash was still under investigation.
