PORTLAND – After browsing the candy aisle at a Plaid Pantry in Northeast Portland last month, an armed robber held the clerk up at gunpoint.

Now, cops are offering up $1,000 to help catch the crook.

It all started Feb. 21 just before 1 a.m. The suspect walked into the convenience store at 6010 Northeast Halsey and bought some candy bars. After the clerk rang him up, the suspect whipped out a gun and demanded cash, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

The gunman then took off running south on Northeast 60th Avenue and was never found by police. He was described as an African American man in his 40s, 5-foot-8 and 190 lbs.

Plaid Pantry is offering to match Crime Stoppers' $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
