BEAVERTON – The couple behind the Coffee People stores are ready to reopen an old store in Beaverton.

The new Canyon Road location was the home of one of Jim and Patty Roberts’ first Coffee People locations in the ‘80s.

After 23 years they sold the chain. The new owners then sold many of the locations, including the Canyon Road store. It became a Java Nation for a while.

A few years later, that store closed. Jim and Patty saw it as the perfect opportunity to recreate what they had made so many years ago.

But this time around they called it Jim & Patty's, and they opened a Portland store on Northeast Fremont Street and 50th Avenue.

The Canyon Road space will be their second shop. They said they hope to match the humor, nostalgia and attitude of the past with their signature coffees and with pastries like Jimbo's Hippy Cookies.

“There's a memory and a legacy that people love and remember, and we continue to do the same thing,” Jim said.

It’s a full-circle moment for the couple, with a plan to slowly open more Jim & Patty's shops in neighborhoods where their Coffee People locations once stood.

The Canyon Road location is expected to open within a few weeks.
