WARRENTON, Ore. – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a stranded sailor about 14 miles off Tillamook Harbor Saturday.
Duane Jones of Oak Harbor, Wash. was caught in severe weather in his 40-foot sailboat out in the ocean. Jones said he didn’t feel safe and called for help.
A Coast Guard crew arrived in a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and safely hoisted Hones from his boat.
“This is our first major storm of the fall and we want to make sure that all boaters are prepared for the weather,” said William Whitford in a press release. “This guy did the right thing in letting us know that he was experiencing difficulties and then asking for help when things got beyond his control. All boaters need to be prepared for any possibilities, including having the proper radio equipment on board to call for help if needed.”
No one was injured in the rescue.
