PORTLAND -- Parents of students at Chief Joseph Elementary School in North Portland have organized a 'bucket brigade' in hopes of preventing any sweeping changes in a district consolidation effort.
The district wants to balance enrollment in the Jefferson cluster of schools. Two prior efforts in other clusters created spirited debate before changes were made.

The district was expected to release a series of options at 4 p.m. on the Portland Public Schools home page Monday and the board was expected to hold a workshop in the evening.
A community forum was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. at Jefferson High.
A final decision may be made in February.
