PORTLAND - A part-time seasonal coach from Catlin Gabel school was fired Tuesday after information came to light about a possible sexual relationship with a student.
Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Thompson said the school immediately reported suspicions of inappropriate relations between 26-year-old Deonte Huff and a student.
Detectives developed enough evidence after the Tuesday report to arrest Huff at his apartment Wednesday afternoon and charge him with second-degree sex abuse.
Thompson says the age and sex of the student are not being released. They know of only one possible victim at this time but would like to hear from anyone who may be aware of additional victims.
In a statement sent home to parents, Catlin Gabel administrators explained the situation and said they'd have counselors available to help students.
"We filed a report alerting authorities and terminated Deonte's employment immediately," explained Lark Parma, head of the school. The letter also assured parents that student safety is a priority and criminal background checks are done on all employees.
