PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 55-year-old West Linn man was cited for careless driving for causing a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 205 Friday morning that injured two people, according to Oregon State Police.
Robert Berreth was driving northbound on I-205 during morning rainstorms when he sideswiped a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Jacqueline Wischmeyer, 67, who also lives in West Linn, Trooper Colin Tracy said.
Berreth merged left and his truck swiped the Camry, sending it careening into the concrete barrier separating northbound and southbound traffic. Wischmeyer’s car and the concrete barrier were forced into southbound, incoming traffic, causing a chain-reaction collision involving three other vehicles traveling the other direction, Tracy said.
One driver had to be extricated with hydraulic tools by first responders. Two others were taken by ambulance to area hospitals but were expected to live, Tracy said.
Berreth was cited for careless driving for causing the wrecks and gumming up traffic along I-205 for two hours.
