CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A California man has pleaded guilty in the shooting of two law enforcement officers in North Albany last year.
Demecio Cardenas, Jr. pleaded guilty to several charges, including attempted aggravated murder and assault, in a Benton County courtroom Tuesday afternoon. His sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
Cardenas shot and injured Benton Co. Sgt. David Peterson and Salem Police Cpl. Andrew Connolly after leading them on a chase in a stolen car last August. Cardenas has an extensive criminal history of stealing cars in California.
Both Peterson and Connolly recovered from their injuries.
