CLACKAMAS – Bystanders brought a 60-year-old man back to life after he collapsed on a field while playing soccer Sunday afternoon.
A group of people, including a doctor and off-duty paramedic rushed to aid the man whom they found unconscious and not breathing just before 1 pm. They called 911, initiated CPR, and used an AED from a nearby school gym to deliver a life-saving shock that brought the man back into viable heart rhythm, Brandon Paxton with Clackamas County Fire Department said.
Clackamas Fire crews arrived and stabilized the patient at the scene before taking him to the hospital.
Firefighters wanted to encourage people to learn CPR.
